If it is a permission issue, can I use Putty to issue chmod to give full permissions to the file? Also, the name of the app is shown in a GUID format. So, I have to double click every GUID folder under Applications folder to find out what app it is. There was a file called RecordingInfo and when I open it in Notepad under Windows 7, it is all garbage. However, I was able to identify some of the text which correspond to the names of the audio files that I gave them initially when using the app.
Yes it is frustrating to check inside each folder to see what app is really inside.
Without more info I couldn't tell you why the iTalk config can't be copied (it's not likely it is permissions)

Btw, I couldn't read anything inside as it had some files which I couldn't open at all. How do I read them?
I think they were a sqlite database (common format used by many internal apps). How do you read this? You manually restore the files (and set the correct permissions/ownership) after you have the phone working again. Same procedure for ALL of your backed up data.

No it will NOT preserve your existing data. I can go into the details in another thread when you create it (but search a bit first, there are plenty of existing threads that answer these questions)

That is a good point.. you have two options:

when you get sent to the paypal page in german, change the beginning of the URL from https://www.paypal.com/de to https://www.paypal.com/en - but do not remove the remainder of the URL. Then hit return in the URL bar to reload the page. That will get you an english page.

Or simply go to paypal.com by yourself - not via the link and donate whatever you feel is appropriate to support@hackint0sh.org - make sure you put in the description field User: macnewbie20 if you want us to know where the donation came from.

    Thanks for trying to donate.

ok. here is my situation. I have an iPhone 3G 8G. Been using it as jailbroken (Cydia) and unlocked (blackra1n) since I've had it on the t-mobile network. I did not jailbreak and unlock this phone myself. I can say I have had NO issues until the last FB app upgrade in Dec...which I deleted because the phone would get stuck in and out of the app...couldn't actually redownload it.

3.1.2 would be what I am running, since it was jailbroken an unlocked. Jan. 2009 is when this all went down. I don't know the software jargon, not even gonna pretend. I thought I ran the old battery down low...since the white apple logo appeared with circling lines that freeze. But the battery icon comes up and says it needs to charge. Which I tried but with the infinate apple loop it doesn't charge it. Its been a month stuck like this. I just in trying swapped out the back housing but it still came back to the same damn apple black screen and went into the battery charge icon.

I like anyone else really do not want to lose the personal data on the partition. I have never backed the phone up because I was told it would no longer be jailbroken. So I have not ugraded or backed up the info. Means nothing to no one but me. I am an aspiring songwriter with more than a handful of important documented placed only there in my notes on this phone. -like most people all my contacts, notes all stuck in the apple wonderland drive and non accessable to me.
So I have looked read researched for wks a fix. I simply don't want to iTune recover or DFU erase all the info on my phone. I don't care about the apps, no music is in my itunes on it or anywhere else. Really its the NOTES and the CONTACTS I care about. That's it...please please help. I'm the person who never wrote down the important numbers, this happened and I was stranded for a few wks in a new place until I could recall my folks number. That's how screwed up this whole thing is... So if anyone out there wouldn't mind helping me out. I am willing to listen learn and fix my phone. I used to upgrade and fix HTC Hermes, this can't be much more challenging with the right guidence. thanks. -- moon
