[Video Support] enabling quartz extreme
hi people,
irecently installed kalyway leopard 10.5.1 to dual boot with windows xp sp2,
everything runs perfect in leopard apart from a slight mouse pointer glitch.
EXCEPT:
i had a radeon 9600 pro video card, when i tried to install logic studio it came up with a warning message saying that my card doesn't support quartz extrem and say it has no VRAM.
so i went out and bought a radeon x800 xt which was not cheep, but i thought would surley support quartz extreme as it is a bit of a power house, again it says it doesn't support quartz extreme????????????
after reading through a few posts here and there it looks as though i need to edit something in the kernall or something like that?????
any ideas on how i can get quartz extreme enabled or a way to bypass this warning to install logic studio???
as you may guess, i'm new to the mac scene!
i'm running a intel 2.4 dual core with 1gb kingston ddr ram and either of the two video cards.
cheers

Hi,
I don't have good knowledgements about ATI card, but I can tell that you need ATI kexts to enable QE and CI on your system.
You can try talking too guedes_jr member, he's a guru for Video Cards.

I downloaded Callisto 008, but the farthest I got with my Radeon 9600XT was getting higher resolutions and getting the card to be recognized as AGP. No QE/CI, so I'm really annoyed that I couldn't run apps like iWorks.
I'm not sure if Callisto 008 will work for your X800 XT, but you can try downloading it. There's instructions in the docs file that comes with the patch, so just follow it.
Regarding Logic studio, I'm not sure you can run it without QE. I know it's possible to turn off QE, but running an app which requires it is another matter.
