USB Hackintosh
hey all,
I have previously installed a copy of osx onto a virtual drive on my laptop just to see it working - took ages and ran pretty slow.
I want to install a version as a true botting version but I don;t relly want it on my primary hard drive.
Heres my question(and apologies if its stupid).
Can I install a hacked mac install onto a, say 20 gb, partion of an external usb 2.0 bus powered HDD so that I can choose to boot into either Vista (main drive) XP (on usb), Ubuntu (on usb) or osx (hopefully on usb)?
Thanks
Malc

Yes. Best option is if your BIOS supports USB booting to leave your main internal HDD alone and install a bootloader (I'd probably recommend GRUB in combination with netkas' EFI solution) in the MBR to manage all your separate partitions. When installing OS X just remember to go into disk utility and format the correct partition on your USB HDD then install as normal.

cool, I managed to come across a thread or two describing ext hdd installs. I've used grub before when I dual booted vista and ubuntu so I'm comfotable usig it.
Thanks.
