    Default Restart error after 4gb RAM upgrade?

    Been running Leopard 10.5.1 for a while now and decided to upgrade from 2gb RAM to 4gb of RAM. Now i get the dreaded restart error screen or the computer freezes randomly usually within 2 hrs. I also have XP installed on a separate HD and that never freezes.

    Anyway of diagnosing the problem? or is there a problem with the 4gb upgrade?

    Specs:

    Q6600
    Abit IP-35 PRO
    2gb Crucial Ballistix PC6400 => 4gb Kingston HyperX PC6400

    Its been a while since i've dealt with the OSX install. Any help appreciated. thx

    Try use maxmem=3072 -v at boot prompt.

    If works try macmem=4096 -v

    This happens with many motherboards with ICH9. If you have 4GB of ram in dual Channel, you may get a kernel panic when ram usage peaks above 3gb(I have Kernel Panics even when not all 4gb is utilized). To fix this simply go to bios and enabled AHCI. It will stop these problems.
    If your MB doesn't support AHCI, you need to download AppleIntelPIIXATA kext driver for Intel ICHx chipsets.
    I found the file from insanelymac forum.
