Default Probs with Parallels in Leopard... just me?

    Hey,

Is anyone else having problems running parallels on Leopard?

The problem is that as soon as it is installed (even before running the parallels app.) the OS slows right down due to the Kernel task jumping to 100% cpu every 2-3 seconds or so. (and on my machine, it alternates between CPU cores). I can stop this happening by kextunload'ing vmmain.kext, but of course that breaks parallels altogether.

When I try to run the parallels app, I get "could not allocate memory PE". This seems to be a known issue with parallels on a real mac, but the slowdown appears to be hackintosh specific?

The machine is a hackintosh (Gigabyte 945/Pentium D920/PC_EFIv4/NetKas kernel/Brazilmac patch). I've tried both v 5160 and the new beta 55 something...

If anyone has a fix or has hit a similar problem I'd be interested to hear... cheers...

OK... must be just me then :p .

I've given up on Parallels. VMWare Fusion seems to work fine.

    Hi

no, you're not the only one with this problem. Just wanted to confirm that I have the same difficulties with leo and parallels (newest release).
System log said something about rescheduling 1 cpus out of 2 every few seconds.
    I also have a 945 chipset running a Pentium 930, patched 9.1.0 kernel.
So I switched to vmware fusion as well.

same problem here. i also notice after opening and closing a vm the problem goes away. i believe it has to do with vt-x. i have pentium d without vt support so i think when OSX boots the parallels kexts load with vt-x on but after i open my vm it shuts it off.

anyway that someone know to have parallels kexts load with vt-x off?

Interesting, mine is the same, have not been able to use it since I installed leopard. I didn't realise it was Leopard, but come to think of it that is the only change since I last used it.

Just looked at the parallels website. They recommend using build 5582 with Leopard. Available on website to download. I am currently downloading and will let you know how I go.

Upgraded Parallels and it seems to be working ok now. However I am using a 15 day licence, to get a full licence I have to pay $50. Not happy!

I didn't have this problem, but I did have problem about 'Copy' and 'Paste' actions controlled by my VB.Net 2003 program. I found that same codes work fine under VMWare Fusion. Since then, I gave up Parallels.

Oh, I installed 4GB RAM on my MBP. Everything runs great, even under Parallel.

Do you have itunes installed on the VM? If you do, disable itunes helper from starting up and you will see much improvement
