OSX Installation problems

Im having problems installing Mac OSX on my PC's

Basically when I pop in Kalyway 10.4.9 or the 10.5.x, it loads up and my hard drive is detected but read only. I can't format it with the disk utility as it tells me that theres an Input/Output error and quits on me. On the left side where it shows your hard drive and CD drive ect.. my hard drive is greyed out.

It does this on both my desktop and laptop.

I have tried formatting it with another utility like gparted and a few others but I still have the same problem.

Desktop is an HP Slimline 3127c
Laptop is Presario F500

Anything I should try?

i'm going to try installing leopard TOH dual boot with Windows XP on my laptop Compaq Presario V3360TU
please give me short tutorial for success progress..
