Manual installation of Security Update 2006-003 - INTEL ONLY

INTEL ONLY

obtain SecUpd2006-003Intel.dmg, and Pacifist 2.0, from Charlessoft.com

Install Pacifist 2.0 to your Applications folder

mount SecUpd2006-003Intel.dmg
right click on the SecUpd2006-003Intel.pkg and "Open with" >> "Other", navigate to Pacifist 2.0 you've installed
in your Applications Folder.

Pacifist will open and a 15 second timer will run, as it is unregistered. click on "Not Yet"

in Pacifist, click on the triangles to expand System and Library.

use Ctrl, to select EVERYTHING, ONE AT A TIME, EXCEPT --- System, Library, and CoreServices

do not select them all at once using shift.
do not deselect anything.
if System, Library, or CoreServices is accidently selected, shut down and restart Pacifist, reselect

type in your password to authenticate when required

two popups will come up, "Bundle Already Exists" and "File Already Exists",
check "Don't Ask Again..." for both,
click on "Update" for Bundles,
click on "Replace" for Files

after installation of files completes, Reboot.

as soon as you get into OS X, open Disk Utility from your Applications/Utilities folder and repair permissions on
your OS X installation, then open terminal and type...

sudo update_prebinding -root / -force

This method broke my permissions after the reboot. I was able to boot into the desktop but I could not initiate anything. Thank GOD I have another partition with 10.4.4 installed on it. I rebooted into that one ran the permission repairs, ran the prebinding and then installed Semjaza's SecUpdate003. Once his update was complete I rebooted and logged into the 10.4.6 install but in safe mode. Did the usual chmod, chown, kextcache that we did with Maxxus installs. Rebooted and now all is fine.

What do you think got screwed after the update using Pacifist?

i have no idea. this is the first problem of that sort i've heard of. but, you are smart, you have another installation partition, and you fixed it! i also have dual installs, and i'm never broken for long. :)
