[Hackintosh Support] Installing Leopard on a Separate Drive

Hi,

After numerous failed attempts of dual-booting vista with Leopard, i've decieded to try to install Leopard on a separate drive.
I have got an old computer which is no longer used and so i plan to take out the hard drive and plug it into my current faster computer, which allows Kalyway 10.5.2 CD to be booted.

If i install Leopard on this separate drive will it effect my vista installation (on separate drive), my MBR or BIOS ?

This separate drive is not an USB External Drive but, it will be attached to my computer directly like normal drives are (via motherboard).

no it will not affect your windows drive in anyway once you install leopard on the new drive. You will just have to choose which hard drive you wish to boot from when you first turn on your computer. leave the drive that you dont want leopard installed UNPLUGed. it will be easier to install and less confusing.

Thanks for your reply. So before installing leopard onto my computer i need to unplug my main hard drive.
But doesn't the hard drive contain drivers which allow the cd to be booted ?
Also, would i need to unplug my main drive everytime i wanted to boot leopard ?

You dont have to unplug your hard drive. But i do recommand for easier installation of leo.
No your current windows hard drive dont have any drivers to boot your computer. Its all in the motherboard. You BOOT leo FROM THE DVD. The leo Kernels are on the DVD. Once you install leo on your hard drive, you have to boot from the DVD everytime you want to run leo.
You can have BOTH drives installed and pluged in without any problems w either WIndows or Leo.
Mines boot to windows if i dont have the DVD in the drive. When I have the DVD in the drive, it boots from my usb drive to leo.

When i install it do i need to change any settings ?
Like use Disk Utility or install kernels etc or can i just hit install ?
Also, is there a bypass to having to put the Leopard Disc every time you want to boot ?

I'm having a VERY strange problem with this type of set up - I'm dual booting with Vista intalled on a seperate drive from Leopard. Leopard boots no problem, and mounts the Vista drive, etc. But Vista will not boot if the Leopard drive is plugged in. Vista never gets past the initial loading screen (w/ the the small green psudeo-progress bar at the bottom endlessly scrolling right to left). If I physically diconnect the Leopard drive, it loads fine. I have other drives plugged in w/out an OS installed, that don't interfere with Vista.

Any ideas or suggestions would be HUGELY appreciated. I'm very stumped.

Leopard installed on SATA
Vista installed on PATA

Don't install any bootloader. Vista on separate HDD and OSX and other HDD.

Call Operation System using BIOS options, F2/F8/F11 ... F(some number). Check your motherboard manual about BootScreen Key.

This is the best bootloader that exists. :)

I should have mentioned, I'm doing what you suggest; i.e., the OS's are on separate physical drives and I'm using my BIOS to select the startup disk - I'm not using a bootloader. Even if I disable the Leopard disk in the BIOS, the Vista boot will hang (endless scrolling of the "progress bar"). As soon as I disconnect the Leopard drive, Vista starts fine. I've tried plugging the Leopard drive into a different SATA port, but doesn't seem to matter.

For what its worth, I tried booting Vista in safe mood, and it stops loading at crcdisk.sys (though drive light stays on, nothing happens). According to a quick google search, this is the last Vista extension to load, and lots of different things can cause Vista to stop on that extension.
