    Default OSx86 10.4.8 install error

I am not new to *nix at all but I am trying to install OSx86 on my Lenovo Thinkpad R61 and I am running into an error. First off here are my specs

    Intel Core 2 Duo T7100
    Intel Santa Rosa Chipset
    Intel GMA965 X3100 GPU

I have tried two different installer disc and every time the detect everything fine and I get to the installer and I get as far as the "Select Destination" part and there is nothing for me to choose. Using the Disk Utility I see my SATA hard drive and it shows the 3 partitions on there(IBM Recovery Partition, Windows Vista Partition, and the type 0xaf partition). It can't mount any of them and when I try to verify the 0xaf partition it says it needs to be repaired and then when i try to repair it I get: "Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit", I am thinking its something with the way the HDD is set up because even partition magic can see the drive but returns an error about the partitions and will not let me do anything. If anyone knows any fixes I am dying to get this running. I want a *nix based operating system running on my thinkpad but the only distro I can get to even install due to lack of hardware support is FreeBSD, and even then the resolution is crap and there is no audio, and since the new Mac Books use the same line of processors and the same chipset as my thinkpad it seems to have the best hardware support. The System profiler recognizes everything except the wifi card. So thanks in advanced for any and all help.

Set install partition to fat32. Then use OSX disk util to format for that patition to HFS
