OS X Testing Out- HELP
Hi I have been using Windows for about 12 yrs and i am sick and tired of it! I am considering buying a Mac but I want to test it out on my old Dell PC first to see how i like it. I just had a few questions and was hoping someone could help me with it:
1) I was wondering if my Dell Dimension 4500 with 1.80 ghz and 256 mb of ram will be able to support the OS X operating system. I currently have Windows XP and i dont want to do a dual boot, i want to uninstall Windows completely.
2) If i later want to go back and uninstall OS X and reinstall Windows (due to any problems i may encounter using OS X) how would i go about doing that?
3) Since my Dell is old, it does not have an Ethernet port for my high speed connection, so i use a Linksys USB200M network adapter. My question was that if I install OS X, can i just pop in the USB200M driver CD to install it or will i need to take further steps?
THANKS IN ADVANCE!

I have to say it will run like crap on your setup. It could run ok if you have a gig of ram and a good agp supported gfx card. Also no idea about the usb nic but you could look into something supported on the pci bus.
If your CPU has at least SSE2, chances are it will work, you will probably need to fiddle with drivers though...
Someone already succeeded in installing OSX on a dimension 4500, look here:
You will have to install AGPGart v 2.1 if you want to use your graphic card properly and Callisto b008 to change resolutions.
Look here for drivers and tutorials:
If you want to reinstall Windows after, just pop in the Windows install CD/DVD and format the drive following Windows' install procedures.
For your usb lan adaptor, i'm not sure if it will work, searh for info at www.insanelymac.org forums.
Only 256m RAM will be slow in OSX, you should have at least 512m.
