Hey you are lucky you have got that far, I can't even boot the DVD, get the infamous bottlist error. However the XXX-10.4.10 with the patch is reported to boot on some p965 systems, maybe you could try that.

I965P and ICH8R works extremely well with osX86, I have an asus P5B with uphuck's 10.4.9 1.4i. You just have to turn Jmicron controller off and use AHCI mode for SATA.
    Mac OS 10.4.9 uphuck 1.3
    Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
    ASUS P5B-E-PLUS (965p + ICH8-R)
SATA DVD-RW ASUS + SATA HDD WD2000JS (ACHI MODE)
Onboard Marvel Yukon Gigabit LAN (works after adding dev id to IONetworkingFamily.kext)
Onboard ADI AD1988a (only lineout working w/ azalia kext)
Geforce 8800 GTS 320 MB (no QE/CI support yet...)

For that you need a sata dvd writer, then you can turn off jmicron in bios.

But I have an ide dvd writer connected to jmicron (Thats the only option if you have ide dvd writer) and the OSX install disks don't boot from jmicron, though after install it works just fine for dvd burning.

Also I am not using ahci, sata is set as enhanced in bios and jmicron is set to ide. Working smoothly with 10.4.10, only problem is installing and booting the dvd.

Upgrade your BIOS and, as xstorm101 pointed out, use AHCI mode on ICH8R, not IDE or RAID.
