Then why did you bought a MacBookPro, if you only want XP?
In OS X, open System Preferences>Startup Disk>[folder with bootcamp icon]

yes, do not run boot camp assistant, just pop in the XP CD, shut down your mac, turn it on, but before you turn it on, hold the C key, then you will boot into the XP installation CD, continue until you select where to install XP, select the 2nd partition, the one with more space, then select to format it in NTFS, quick or not quick doesn't matter, and follow the steps provided by the installer. But seriously give OSX a try, I suppose your MacBookPro came with Leopard, which is better than XP and Vista.

Why don't you use it in a virtual machine? No need for a reboot, acceptable speed.

Still, all this can be used in a VM (like I do it at work).
You can even install windows into a real partition and choose, weather you would like to boot it natively or in a virtual machine. Or have your windows installation in a spanning image.
If you need no directx/openGL or direct draw accellerated games, then a virtual machine gives you more comfort over a native installation, as you can use all the Mac OS related features like primary click by tap on the touchpad etc.
Parallels and VMware Fusion are the two commercial products on the market to do this.
