From your menu.lst, this is your setup:

Fedora on first disk, first partition (sda1, or (hd0,0))
OSX86 Jas 10.4.7 on fourth disk, second partition (hd3,1)
OSX86Too on first disk, second partition (hd0,1)
OSXx86 on second disk, second partition (hd1,1)

    Am I correct?
It's just that it wouldn't be the first time that one forgets that the first partition's index is "0" and not "1" in the (hdx,y) notation.
(I also assume that all the osx partitions are primary (and you already said they were active)).

Am quite sure this isn't the problem and you did it correctly (since osx on hd3,1 boots).
Just wanted to get that out of the way.

Thanks for checking. It would not be the first time i got it wrong . But it is correct this time. From grub command line it reports type af for those partitions. I think the problem stems from Apple genaricpcata.kext not being able to handle my disks. I will try copying wth the working kexts if I get a chance.

    Thanks Don

I'd like to be able to boot my OSX partition from a USB hard drive.
Right now, I have a main hard drive (Hd0) which contains a linux and a windows partition. Grub is installed and deals with those fine. I would like to, however, add an entry to Grub that allows me to boot from my USB hard disk, since my BIOS does not appear to allow boot from usb (which is odd in itself). I created the entry in grub but can not figure out which numbers to use for my usb disk ie: (hdX,Y). Is there a way, from linux, that I can see the list of my disks. fdisk -l does not show me my USB hard drive, and neither does the Ubuntu disk utilty
    Thanks

don, could I ask, did you ever get this working? I'm having much the same problem, and I've got no idea what to do.

also, how do you boot from the dvd? I only get the option to use the dvd to install it, I don't see any options to boot an existing install.

using JAS's 10.4.8, I only have 2 snags with the install- It takes forever to load the installer, and runs slow; and it doesn't restart at the end, it just sits there with the circular spinny 'loading' icon.

now, I'm trying to use grub, but the best I've been able to get is where it says 'Loading Stage2' and freezes. I've tried all sorts of combinations of makeactive, --force, and chainloader, but I've gotten nothing. Windows bootloader sucks even harder - I just get a blinking underscore cursor.

    Any ideas, anyone?

    My system:
    P4 ht 3 ghz cpu - SSE3
    3 hds -
    sda1- windows
    sda5 - opensuse 10.2
hda1- Mac OSX (hopefully I'll get to use it someday)
    hdb- media
