    Default Asus P5LD2-VM Mobo users

    Hi all,

I've finally fitted my Mac Pro case with an Asus P5LD2-VM motherboard, E6600 Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2 x 1Gb sticks of Geil RAM, 250Gb Seagate Baracuda SATA HDD using the onboard 950 graphics, Neo HE 500 watt Antec power supply and Samsung DVD writer.

The motherboards green LED is permanently lit but when I've tried to power the system up the processor fan starts for around five seconds and then stops! I get no vodeo output to the monitor what so ever, my Samsung monitor flick from digital to analogue searching for a signal. I've tried removing and re-inserting the RAM, moving the RAM to other channels but nothing works.

Does anyone have any good advice to help me out?

    My e-mail is awh1@bigpond.com

Try resetting the CMOS, there should be a jumper setting to reset it.

Mobos come DOA all the time. If resetting the CMOS doesn't work, return it.

Remove the battery for a couple of minutes then replace it.

There's a jumper on the mobo you have to switch for a few seconds after you remove the battery, it's labelled cmos reset - or some such.

I had a P5LD2 board that had the same symptoms when the CPU heatsink was screwed down to tight; I RMA'd it.

Okay I found how to reset the CMOS (it was on page 21 of the manual )

I've also removed and replaced the CPU and fan just in case it wasn't seating properly.

Same problem, CPU fan starts and runs for 4-5 seconds and winds down, there is nothing on the monitor during this whole process.

I've lodged an on-line help request with ASUS, I now wait ... and wait ... I hate waiting

the other issue could be a dodgy power supply, have you tried it on another board? Which revision is your board? -only rev.2 support conroe AFAIK.
