Default [Advice] Possible to re-install on imac w/o password?

I have purchased a used imac (2.8 intel w/ 2 gigs ram) with an existing version of Leopard on it. The problem is that I cant install anything w/o the password from the previous owner. I've purchased Leopard 10.5 and can't even reformat the computer w/o the password. ANY help on working around this (for a newb) is super appreciated. Thanks (and I did do a search but only came up with results for upgading from tiger)...

I don't know how that's possible, but -you might try physically removing the hard drive and connecting up to another Mac, or even a PC, and reformatting it to something like FAT32 or even NTFS, and then putting it back in and attempting a reinstall.

Unless this is a firmware password, in which case you can use the "Firmware Password" utility on any Leopard disk. Quit the installer and select that from the "Utilities" menu.

At what point does it ask you for the password?

He might probably talk about the EFI password.

If you insert the Leopard Install DVD and press alt/option key, can you select it and boot on it ?

If yes, just wait it to load up the install process and after the default language selection go to the menu bar and open Disk Utility to format your Harddisk before installing (you can later use Bootcamp if you plan to use XP on it).
