Default Tricking 2.0 Firmware to run iTunes App for 2.1? How?

I am running Firmware 2.0, jailbroken. I do not want to flash upgrade to firmware 2.1 (for a large number of reasons; suffice to say I happy with 2.0).

However, lately, there are a number of iTunes app that demands 2.1 firmware (even though the app is simple enough that I think this is an overkill requirement by the developer). iTunes refuses to sync the 2.1 app to my iPhone.

Is there a simple trick I can use to "force" or "trick" the 2.1 app to install to my 2.0 iPhone? if the app crashes afterwards, so be it, at least I know it surely does not work. no harm.

Can someone please enlighten me on this how-to?

You can change the version by editing the file /System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist
    Change Product Version to 2.1.

Do you or anyone else have experience using FWChanger to "fake" the upgrade to 2.1 firmware?

Can the latest version of FWChanger 2.0 fake a 2.1 firmware (or only up to 2.0.1)?

Are there other apps that can do this?

I am on Windows, and there is no easy way to manually edit the .plist file.

Hi, I used FWChanger on my girlfriends 2.02 phone for the same reason. It worked just fine. All the apps run just fine.

    ptpuffers,

just to confirm, the current FWChanger has an option to fake 2.1 firmware? which version of FWChanger are you using? 2.0 FWChanger?

Does your iPhone freeze when it is rebooted with the fake 2.1 firmware still enabled? Can you switch the firmware back to 2.0 after installing the app from iTunes (that required 2.1)? Will that app run after you switch back?

I am using FWChanger v2.0 by Gojohnnboi. You have to manually type which firmware you want and build. I put the firmware to 2.1 and the build to 5f136, I have not changed it back to 2.02 to see if the apps still run. But the phone runs just fine. I have had it thinking it was on 2.1 for about 3 weeks without a hitch. I have not noticed any freezing at all when rebooting. I would change it back but it seems like every couple days there is an update to an app and I am to lazy to change it everytime there is an update, just to put it back. If you would like I can change it back tomorrow and let you know how it goes.
