Default [AppStore] How do you copy an app from the iPhone into iTunes on the desktop?

I have an app that I downloaded onto my iPhone called Vexed, and I cannot find it in the App Store anymore! It's annoying that Apple approves these apps and then takes them down without any explanation! I tried to use the "Transfer Purchases from iPhone" in iTunes, but that never works for me - it's another of those garbage options that should work but doesn't (I am using iTunes on Windows Vista). My iPhone is jailbroken, so I can SSH into it, thank goodness. Can I just copy the .app folder for the application onto my desktop and then copy it back onto the iPhone? Will it still work? Also, if I rename that .app folder with a .ipa extension and copy it into the Applications folder in iTunes, will it show up in iTunes and will I be able to install it back on the iPhone through iTunes?

I will have to restore my iPhone (since I am getting the problem where the apps will start up for a few seconds and then the phone closes back to the home screen; jailbroken apps work fine, by the way), but I wanted to copy the app somewhere where I can get it back onto the iPhone. I would appreciate any input.

Just a quick question... Will your app not stay in your iTunes library? You should just be able to re-sync (install) it after your restore.

The best thing for you to do would be to crack that app yourself. Then once that's completed you can do anything you want with it and not worry about permissions and iTunes.

I haven't tried what you are suggesting but have thought about it. Why not give it a go with a free app and see what happens, since you will be restoring anyway, not much to loose. Since it is "your" app, being re-installed on your phone with your iTunes it may work.

The app is on the iPhone (I downloaded it from the AppStore directly onto the iPhone), and I am trying to transfer it into iTunes (since for some reason the app no longer exists in the AppStore and I can't download it from the AppStore in iTunes). Is there a way to copy it onto the iTunes library? It won't transfer from the iPhone using "Transfer Purchases from the iPhone" in iTunes. That's the way that it should be done, but it's not working. That's why I was trying to see if there's a way to make an .ipa file from the .app folder so that I can drop the .ipa file into iTunes. I am authorized to use the app, I just can't download it anymore (as happened with NetShare). I'll try with a free app as well to see what happens. It's a pain that these functions aren't working properly (i.e., the transfer purchases from iPhone function). Now I'm going to make sure to download apps onto iTunes every night in case Apple decides to keep removing them! What a pain in the neck - haha!

The fact that it won't sync to your PC is scary. We all know about the kill switch but from what I am hearing, they are preventing apps from sycing to your pc if they aren't in the appstore. Unless you can't sync any app back, then you have another issue.

Crack it. It needs to be on your phone anyway to do it. As long as you don't give the app to anyone I can't see it being an issue.

On OS X, you will find all your App Store downloads in:
    <your home folder>/Music/iTunes/Mobile Applications

The "mobile applications" folder should contain all your downloaded apps -- make a copy of it and store it in another safe location. Windows iTunes users should have a similar setup; it appears iTunes is keeping track of your downloaded apps similar to how it takes care of your downloaded music.

    Hope this helps!

I believe in this case the app has not been transferred to the PC and cannot for some reason...
