    Default XBMC For ATV2! Yippie!

For everyone who's already got a jailbroken ATV2 and have been scratching their heads as to what to do with it, here's your answer: XBMC has been released for the ATV2 - You asked for it: XBMC for AppleTV2, iPad, iPhone4. | XBMC

You'll need a jailbroken ATV2 to install XBMC. Once installed, you can stream (not transcode) media not allowed by iTunes to your ATV2 - this means watching AVI/DiVX from you Windows or Mac machine on the ATV2 without having to change the container or use Plex/Airplay.

This is the first major step for ATV2 owners to having the media center device they've always dreamed of! Who else is excited?!?

I've been playing with this on my iPad - works surprisingly well for a 1.0 release.
Many internet based streaming protocols don't seem to work (nothing crashes - the log file just says "unsupported protocol")
I'm also having problems with browsing a UPnP source (Vuze's inuilt UPnP). However browsing another XBMC (installed on my ATV1) via UPnP works and I can stream mkv files from that.

I would suggest you report problems (with crash and xbmc.log files) in the XBMC forums XBMC for iOS Specific Support - XBMC Community Forum - rather than here at hackint0sh . This way they will get better visibility and maybe even fixed.

If you have problems with your ATV2 that related to jailbreak, SHSH or other topics not directly related to XBMC - feel free to post them at hackint0sh.

Olethros - have you experienced those same problems with XBMC on your ATV2?

I don't yet have an ATV2 - however I've seen reports of the same kind of problems on the ATV2.

I've not had the same problems - are you using the full version released yesterday?

Yes I'm using the second release (that fixed the libcurl issue) - I've even re-installed it to be sure.

The two problems I mentioned are relatively specific. The XBMC team have done an amazing job getting this to work so well for a 1.0 release.

Working add-ons for A4 (iPhone, iPad, ATV2). Post here. - XBMC Community Forum explains the internet streamed video problems.

I agree - XBMC team is amazing for releasing this so quickly.

For anyone who's reading the thread - Olethros is actually having trouble with add-ons for XBMC. Basic functions such as playing media files from your PC are fully functional. (also note that I've not shared the trouble that Olethros has & he's using the program on his iPad - lubcurl issue is specific to the iPad itself)

Which add-ons have you tried in specific (since you mentioned this was a very specific problem you're having)? Streaming add-ons are the only ones giving users trouble at this point, and add-ons created by the XBMC team are reported as working with no problems.

I've just installed it to my ATV2. I will give it a test later tonight and chime in with my findings.
Thanks for your report so far, it is indeed useful information

So far it's running ok on my atv2.
I haven't messed around with add-ons. The only one i tried was youtube add-ons which seemed to be ok.
I'm able to connect to my samba share to playback an mkv without problem (avatar 1080p). Although it played well but i can tell that it is not as smooth as my ATV1 with the HD Decoder. Also, it cannot play ISO directly yet where xbmc on my ATV1 can.

By no mean, i am very excited that XBMC is now on ATV2
