Dedicated External Transcoding
I am wondering what kind of power i will need to have a dedicated transcoding machine (possible Mac Mini) to run with my ATV2.
It it helps, here is what i am running with right now.
MBP17 - 2.4Ghz Duo Core, 4GB ram, 256MB nvidia
ATV 4.2.1 JB with Plex
Airport Extreme dual band being fed with a 2Tb external HD.
As it stands if i try to transcode over the wireless anything that has a higher rating that 572P (strange i know) it can't chew and process it fast enough. I am partially blaming it on the fact that the ATV is hard lined to the Airport but has to send all information back and forth to my MBP, which is always doing other tasks as well.
I would like to transcode at least 720P and possibly 1080 (more than ATV can work with, but thinking for the future) Right now I have a line on a Mac Mini 2.4Ghz Duo-Core with a 256Mb Nvidia and 2Gb ram. Would this be enough?
Any information you could provide to help me out in finding a proper solution to my problem would greatly be appreciated.
