Default Jailbroken AppleTV and proxy settings

    Hi Guys,

We've just purchased an AppleTV here for use at the school I work at - unfortunately before purchasing it wasn't researched that we couldn't add proxy settings directly to it in it's default form.

I've read around the web and have found out how to add proxy settings via /private/var/preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist but unfortunately I can't work out how to actually edit it to make it work using our proxy.

Could anyone give me a hand here and tell me if I'm missing something very obvious? I've found two locations that refer to proxies and I have no idea which one I would edit or how I would edit it.

    Thanks in advance!

Got it working in the end, took a few attempts along with trial and error.

Had to be edited in both places that mentioned proxies.

    Code:
    			<key>Proxies</key>
    			<dict>
    				<key>AppleProxyConfigurationSelected</key>
    				<integer>2</integer>
    				<key>FTPPassive</key>
    				<integer>1</integer>
    				<key>HTTPEnable</key>
    				<integer>1</integer>
    				<key>HTTPPort</key>
    				<integer>CHANGEME</integer>
    				<key>HTTPProxy</key>
    				<string>CHANGEME</string>
    			</dict>
This is the code I used - replacing the entire <key>Proxies</key> with this, and then editing your own HTTPPort/HTTPProxy in.

One thing to mention is - it doesn't update in realtime, I found it could take between 5-10 minutes before it re-read the file and took in the new changes. I tried sleeping and waking up several times, and that did seem to reduce the amount of time it took.

    Hope this helps someone else

No guarantee, but did you try setting http_proxy or something via ssh?

    export http_proxy=”http://proxyserver:port”

Old thread but it helped me and want to give back my 2.

You need a mean to SSH into ATV2: I use FileZilla => https://filezilla-project.org/
You need a ".plist" editor: I use "plist Editor Pro " => Fat Cat Software

So I'm not going to elaborate on how FileZilla works => Google is your friend... always.
Once you're able to connect to you ATV2 using SSH
    Locate the file " /private/var/preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist "
    Copy it to local HD
On ATV2 rename the file to "preferences.plist.bak"
Open the local preferences.plist with the plist Editor
Locate this string located at line 57 and 103 (for me anyway) you can use the F3 key.
Edit the String to look like this:
    <key>HTTPPort</key>
    <integer>8800</integer>
    <key>HTTPProxy</key>
    <string>190.126.133.45</string>
Of course please use your own Proxy IP
    Save the file
Copy it to FileZilla (Drag & Drop) into the correct folder : " /private/var/preferences/SystemConfiguration/ "
    Restart the ATV2
It should work like a charm
