Default [HOWTO] Coaxial SPDIF on AppleTV 2G

    Hi there,
I managed to get Coaxial SPDIF working on my ATV2G today.

Simply crack open your ATV2G, and solder your choice of rca socket's wires to the back of the toslink socket (please try to do a better job soldering than I have in this pic)

I had some trouble soldering the ground wire to the ground wire on the back of the toslink socket, so I just soldered it to one of the nearby ground points and it seems to work.

Solder the signal wire to the spot left (closer to the RJ45 socket) of the toslink's centre pin.
Find somewhere to mount the socket on the case, or do as I did and just run the cable outside to a female rca plug.

    There you have it.

[WARNING] Do NOT I repeat, NOT! solder the signal wire to the centre pin on the back of the toslink, your ATV2G will not boot. I re flash *should* get you up and running again. So make sure you check your soldering BEFORE powering the device back on again. [WARNING]

I'm not 100% sure this is the "correct" way to do this, but it works well for me. If there are any tech gurus out there who know better, please let me know and I will update the howto.

cool stuff! I've done the same basic thing on my Xbox 1 and xbox 360. I'll give this a shot once I pick up an appleTV2 once I see a few more reviews of XBMC on it.

Thanks a ton for putting this together.
I'd love a bit of info on how you close the case and what it looks like.

Very cool, thanks for the writeup.
    I have one (stupid) question.
What exactly is the reason for this mod?
Is it so you can connect to a device that does not have a TosLink input, but does have coax?
    Once again, great work!

Thanks for posting, I will try soon. Do you have any idea which chip controls the digital output?
