Greenposi0n finally brings untethered jailbreak to Apple TV2

The Chronic Dev Team finally released Greenpois0n RC5 yesterday which will jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 fully untethered. I haven't tried it myself yet, but it looks very promising.

FYI - I've been reading on some other forums that Greenposi0n RC5 may not actually support ATV2 even though they claim it does. Can't tell from what I have read if this is a user problem or a problem with the software.

I would love to get confirmation from someone that they were able to successfully jailbreak their ATV2 on 4.2.1 using Greenposi0n.

What I understood was that the ATV2 implementation of this kernel exploit isn't yet ready for release. I will ask directly for a clarification, but I think the people involved are unable to confirm much more than this until it is ready for release.

If you read the README you'll see it says ATV2 will be supported in upcoming RC6 release.

@p0sixninja: starting on rc6 now, including appletv support!! @nitotv has already done most of the work for us. he’s awesome!!!

Looks like Greenpois0n RC6 will be here soon. I'm looking forward to an easy method for jailbreaking my ATV2.

Hi guys. Just jb my ATv2G 4.2.1 with grenpois0n RC6 released yesterday.

What I did:

a) MUST install firmware 4.2.1 from apple via iTunes
b) Download greenpois0n from their website. Its now version RC6
c) Read the Readme. Nothing mayor just that it states you must wait for 40 seconds after completion.
d) Boot the ATV2 after (a) just to see its "active".
e) start greenpois0n. Choose YES to the question about jbreaking for ATV2. Press jailbreak button
f) Enter DFU mode (MENU+Play buttons 7 seconds). Watch the sw do its thing. The jb button will become Complete when done. Wait a minute or so...
g) Boot the ATV2. Will see a greenpois0n menu option. Hit the inject software which has just the Cydia install option.
h) This installs Cydia and ssh option to communicate with the ATV2 just in case.
i) After install youll see nito has been installed.
j) I wanted XBMC but it didnt installed via Nito (in my case) so I did the manual install via Terminal. It works perfectly.

ENJOY no tethered boot....

Problems:
When I did (a) I didnt boot the ATV2, went directly to (e) and it kept giving me a jailbreak progress indicator and the jb button would display a failed

for a second or so and kept trying and didnt finish. So I did the (d) and tryied again. It installed it well this time.
