Default Downgrade possible to iOS 4.2.1

    Hi,

I just want to inform you that you can downgrade your Apple TV without saving any SHSH. I did it on mine yesterday. I upgraded by mistake to iOS 4.3 and was waiting for a new version of greenpois0n. But yesterday, I tried to restore the iOS 4.2.1 and it worked. I was then even able to Jailbreak...

I just downloaded the ipsw firmware from Apple (http://appldnld.apple.com/AppleTV/06...4_Restore.ipsw).
Put the Apple TV in DFU mode, run iTunes. Plug ONLY the USB cable wait a few seconds (3-4) and press simultaneously the Menu and Play button for 7 seconds. Itunes should find you Apple Tv in restore mode. Then click on 'restore' and the shift button. Then select the firmware. That's all!

You do require a SHSH for this. People who have "success" actually have their hosts file modified to point to Cydia and actually DO have their SHSH saved with Cydia.
There is no magic formula to bypass the SHSH requirement for downgrading.

    Hi,

Sorry but I didn't save anything. I bought it, and I upgraded by mistake as I explained. I tried to jailbreak thousands of time by using greenpoison and seasonpass but it failed.
Then someone said in the forum (the queue just below this one) that he was able to do downgrade without saving his SHSH. So I tried it, and I confirm you do not need to save your SHSH.

Have you checked your hosts file? You must be redirecting gs.apple.com

    Nothing in the host....
    If I do a ping of gs.apple.com

Pinging gs.apple.com.akadns.net [17.112.176.11] with 32 bytes of data:

Seems to be an Apple IP.
I never used tools to downgrade any of my iDevices...or to save their SHSH.

Strange, maybe your ISP is using transparent proxying of requests...
I believe you, but it shouldn't work. So there must be a reason.

I was able to downgrade as well with no 4.21 blob saved about an hour ago, had expected an error like I've been receiving (21 and 1600) but downgraded successfully to my surprise. Of course I then saved the 4.2.1 blob to go with my 4.3.1 already saved. Maybe apple is signing the firmware again perhaps temporarily.

I just saved the 4.2.1 Blob with Tinyumbrella!

Apple seems to be signing 4.2.1.

No mistake: I bought the ATV2 last week on Friday and modded it on Sunday: it came with 4.2.1 installed, I flashed it with the modded 4.3.1 and only then saved the 4.3.1 blob with Tinyumbrella. Tried to get the 4.2.1 blob on Sunday without success. Tried it now and got it!

    GET YOUR 4.2.1 BLOB NOW!!!

    Cheers,
    vma
