I hacked the ATV on a PC but unfortunaly i had to open the ATV to get SSH running. I you have a friend with a mac you could make a boot-osx with the kernel to do some hacking on your ATV.
I installed the ATVFiles Plugin, Perian and the A52-codec to get AC3 output working. For file-transfering and for command-line inputs I used th programs winSCP and PuTTY. Working quiet good and you can use the tutorials on engaged and the awkwardtv wiki.

The Patchstick Project is still in progress. You should check the awkward wiki from time to time. Maybe there will be s.th. like this in the future.

While its frowned upon there is a patchstick torrent floating around. You need to use DD from a unix/linux operating system though but that can be easily done with a live cd or through VMWare.
Thats how I did it^^

Could someone actually post the torrent here please?
I searched everywhere and since I can't afford a mac right now, I would need this readily made image. For me the live cd is no problem. If anybody needs one there is a very popular one which is free. It's called Knoppix.
