Discuss well...I think my ATV is a paperweight at the AppleTV 1 - Hackint0sh.org; could just be parted silliness.
if ubuntu shows the correct labels, then they are present.

not sure of were to go from here, if you have the disk partitioned correctly and the partitions have the correct format and contents, then it should boot. If it does not then have to start looking at a problem with the AppleTV internal cable or some hardware fault.
Since you have been pulling the drive in and out. Did you change the drive jumper settings?

I guess the next thing I will try is to replace the cable. I didn't even take my ATV apart until it stopped working...so its the cable, it just went bad?...I never had a ribbon cable go bad, even in my ollllldddd school computers.

I'll check when I get home, I'm pretty sure it wants cable select.
A replacement for the AppleTV internal ata ribbon cable is very hard to find, there was a posting on the awkwardtv forums regarding a replacement but the forums are down right now. The cable also has a signal cutout on it that you can see if you look closely.

I have some jumpers so I tried both device 1 and cable select and I got the same results with the jumper in place with both of those configurations.

If you see that article link me to it. I thought it would be just a regular laptop IDE cable?
Like I said, I didnt take apart my ATV until it did not boot. Maybe something just went bad? What pisses me off is there is no option to force boot on USB (if your remote doesnt work).
Any information on resetting the bios, getting into the bios or anything else that I can try? I would hate to not use the remains of my ATV for anything. If I would have to buy something new, would you recommend getting a mini and just running OS X?
But anyway, as much as you helped me I really appreciate it! At least others can use this thread to restore an ATV that is in this kind of condition...or try.
Thanks,
Steve

Kind of hard to do that since the IR remote IS the user interface

There is no bios, It's EFI based. The atv-booloader site has info on that.
Yours would be the first AppleTV that I've heard of that will not boot from the internal disk. I've abused mine without bricking in.
Now is not the time to be buying a MacMini, too close to possible update.

I will read up on that...never really had anything without a bios.

Like I said I just did a boxee update then the next time I rebooted..it didnt. Could have been a power surge and fried something...I wish I could test it some how.

No cash right now anyway. I will just look at my broken ATV for a little.

Update:
Replaced cable, same thing. Tried HD in other ATV, works fine. I guess something is messed up but I have no idea what.
Anyway, I got a ATV paperweight and a TV Max (http://www.miglia.com/products/video..._rear_w700.jpg)
What can I build with the two?? Even if I have to buy a like motherboard or whatever.
Any Ideas?
