Default [USB] boot AppleTV OS (not mac or linux)

is it possible to boot the apple tv running the apple tv os completely off a usb flash disk? I read that it isn't possible b/c the kernel prelink cuts off USB support when it loads.. I'm a true noob but slowly learning so if I'm wrong correct me.. anyways I thot that by simply patching that with turbos USB hack it would boot.. it didn't work for me which is why I'm posting this.. so I'd really like it if anyone could provide any feedback. im not really afraid to try anything so just let me know what to do and why and I'll give it a go. thanks in advance

Well, if you patch the kernel for usb support this should really do the trick as it is possible to boot a real mac os.

If this doesn't work, perhaps it's enough for you to just use your external drive as content storage. This guide explains how to do this: http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/gigantast...age-283532.php

    Hope this helps

thanks for the speedy reply. i already tried patching for USB support with no success and I gave up b/c im running a ppc mac (which doesnt change anything related to this which I was unaware of back then). I suppose I could use an external drive but for some reason I wanted Linux to be the primary os on the apple tv and have the regular os on a 2 gig (or less) flashdisk just for misc stuff. thanks again
