    Glad you got it sorted.

    I prefer my beer served in a bucket (and at room temperature). Thats how its served in England.

    I will have to jump a plane? By the way do I still need to edit the file AFPSERVER=-YES- even if I am transfering from my macbook? If so what do I need to use? or do i just transfer and reboot?

    You don't have to edit the /etc/hostconfig file. You only need to do it if you want the file server to start automatically on boot. If you don't do it then you have to run 'sudo /usr/sbin/AppleFileServer' each time you boot.

    To edit the hostconfig file you will need to copy file editors to the appletv. The most common editor is VI. Follow these instructions to enable it : http://wiki.awkwardtv.org/wiki/Install_SU_and_VI

    When its installed connect to the appletv using terminal.

    Assuming you dont know how to use vi follow these instructions. type:

    sudo vi /etc/hostconfig

    When the editor launches move the cursor to the letter N of the word NO (of AFPSERVER) and type

    xx

    This deletes the word NO. Now type

    i

    This puts the editor into INSERT mode. Now type

    YES

    If all is ok then close the editor. Press the ESC key and type

    :wq

    If you make a mistake and want to quit the editor without saving the file then press the ESC key and type

    :q!

    THIS IS MY FILE

    ----
    AFPSERVER=-YES-
    AUTHSERVER=-NO-
    AUTOMOUNT=-YES-
    CUPS=-AUTOMATIC-
    NFSLOCKS=-AUTOMATIC-
    NISDOMAIN=-NO-
    TIMESYNC=-YES-
    QTSSERVER=-NO-
    WEBSERVER=-NO-
    SMBSERVER=-NO-
    SNMPSERVER=-NO-
    SPOTLIGHT=-YES-

    ARDAGENT=-YES-
    ----

    good luck.

    p.s. I realise that an easier way to do this would be to replace the file with one that is already edited but then you would have to set the file permissions and ownership.

    Thanks for all your help. I have tried everything (twice) but still hit a wall. SSH yes, AFP no. Still cant see movies I placed in movie folder nor can I connect to my external mac from the atv even tho I can see them in Nitotv. I need a break (or admit defeat : )

    I have you tried to remove NitoTV and use ATVFiles instead. I use ATVFiles and it works fine. I did try to use NitoTV any it totally crapped out my Appletv. I had to restore it and start all over again.
