If you follow this guide and install 10.5.5/10.5.6 then you should have proper sound: http://www.hackint0sh.org/f98/70835.htm

But with 10.5.8+ it's not possible up till now.

There is no way of getting sound over HDMI. It only works out of the analog sound.

You can still use the video part from HDMI and then select the analog sound input in the TV set.

    * Download the AppleHDA audio driver: RapidShare: 1-CLICK Web hosting - Easy Filehosting

    * Drag the alc885dump.txt on the AppleHDAPatcherv1.20 and wait till the patching is finished.

**** Do not run AppleHDAPatcherv1.20!! simply drag the codec onto the AppleHDAPatcherv1.20!! ****

It works for Tiger and Leopard. The volume and quality works great for me, it is not low at all.

If you just follow my guide sound should be working as expected.

The low sound problem only occurs on 10.5.8. Though I don't really know why this happens ...

    Hi!
It's been over a year now and I'm curious if there's been a development in the sound problem running osx 10.5.8?
Anyone know if a later version of osx has been made available to the old AppleTV?
