Default So do we have sound working yet or not?

Just curious to know wether audio works with OSX on the ATV.

Maybe I'm missing something here but without sound support, there's not much point in me cracking open my ATV and doing the OSX install, as the only reason I want to do this is to be able to use various media players under OSX on the ATV.

I've been without internet for a few days so haven't read anywhere if the sound drivers are sorted, and can't find any info online?

Well you dont need to crack open the case to install OSX anymore, just need an external USB HDD. I prefer viewing media thru the appletv GUI/backrow anyway much slicker than OSX.

My reason for wanting to boot OS X via the external drive was just so that I didn't have to crack the case. I'm getting to be against hardware hacking in my old age...

But, my plan was simply to make minor modifications to my AppleTV.. Install quicktime plug-ins, and plug-ins for FrontRow. I never planned to use my AppleTV as a Mac. At most, I'd use it to run some sort of service for my network. (Radius for 802.1X authentication so I can run WPA2 Enterprise security on my wireless, perhaps)

With that said, I'm actually very surprised that no progress has been main on audio yet. I would have thought it would be a simple addition, since it's a built-in audio solution. I've read that the Linux on AppleTV project has audio and full video (w/ acceleration) working.

I am with you ptaylor. I just want to make my ATV "real-world functional". So far, I have not found a solution for a relatively inexperienced person like myself to do so.
