Ripping DVD for AppleTV
My movies are coming out streched on the verticle (or is it smashed on the horizontal).
Is there a formula for figuring out the best pixel dimension?
I have a standard TV if that makes a difference.
I have ripped the movies using MTR and Handbrake but can fix the dimension in Quicktime.
Just letterbox them
If you use Quicktime pro's export to quicktime movie ( H.264 - etc) Then in Size choose the preset you want like NTSC or PAL but select the 4:3 versions and then check the preserve aspect ratio checkbox and select letterbox in the drop down box.
From what you described it sounds like the apple TV doesn't detect whether it is 4:3 or 16:9 media like a DVD player does and auto letterboxes if reqd. I dont have my appletv yet so cant check. Maybee there is a screen size / type selection option. or use the picture size button on your tv remote if you have one to select 16;9 then you can use the original file.
