"Prohibited sign" with Tiger on ATV

Hi all!

I'm trying to "update" my appleTV with Tiger with usb external disk.

i've used the guide and done everything but i always see a "prohibited sign" (so probably i'm continously doing wrong :D )

AppleTV with firmware 2.3.1 160Gb
+
HD 80Gb SATA 2,5" on USB 2.0 case
(i also used a PATA 3,5" on USB case with external power supply)

I'm using an intel macmini to install osx tiger (from macmini "recovery" dvd)
Small installation on just 1 big partition (80Gb)
Tiger updated to 10.4.8 with combo (no other update installed)

I've modified AppleFileSystem with textwrangler (i only added that info, not replaced anything).
I can't find atvosx file (it's incomplete on every t0rr3nt resource)

I've used 2 different boot.efi (1 found on t0rr3nt, the other on OSBoot 2.0 by Apple).

One question:
i've to receive confirm when i do "sudo bless", after typing root password?

What can i do to see osx working on my appletv without opening the case?

Use "sudo nano" on the console to change the applefilesystem kext. Some gui editors mess up the file.
Then do a "chmod -R 755 *" and "chown -R root:wheel *" in your /System/Library/Extensions folder.
Then delete /System/Library/Extensions.mkext. Then copy your boot.efi from your appletv to /System/Library/CoreServices/ and bless it the way it is described in the tutorial in this forum.

Then unmount and change the partition type to the recovery guid with "gpt". Plug the usb drive in to the port and power up your appletv. It worked for me everytime I tried it.

If it doesn't work then set the partition type back to its original guid. Then boot up on a "normal" intel mac. Run harddisk utility and check your access privileges/rights. If there's something wrong, this will fix it. Change the partition type again and try it again.

I can't do "chown", it tells me "operation not permitted".
Even with sudo it do nothing.
Group and owner remains the same ("staff" and "my_mac_user")

Sounds to me like you have disabled file ownerships. Connect the disk to your mac and open a terminal window. Try this command: "vsdbutil -a /Volumes/<your disk>/".
Alternative way: select your disk on the desktop and press cmd-i. In the info panel open the last container "sharing / access rights". Click on the lock, enter your password and then clik on the little wheel. A menu comes up, an in there should be a menu entry "enable ownerships". Activate it.

Now open up disk utility and make a complete ownership repair. This should do the trick.

Thanks, now i've been able to change ownership but i think that i have to repeat almost the entire procedure to check everything because it still not work... :confused:

I've repeated every step (but now i've checked ownership) and then it works!!!
