10.4 on ATV as torrent machine, accessed using remote terminal
Hello, I am trying to install 10.4 on my atv and use it as a torrent machine that I can leave running all the time, so that I don't always have to interrupt the downloads by taking my laptop with me when I go to class or work. Since I don't have an external monitor to attach to the atv, I want to control it using remote terminal from my laptop (for original testing uses I can borrow a friend's monitor for a short time if necessary).
So I bought a 40gb used atv, and I have a 60gb IDE drive lying around from a dead powerbook g4 which I would like to use in place of the 40gb drive.
I formatted the drive as Mac OS extended (journaled), and made the partition (single) a GUID partition.
I have downloaded a universal install disk (DVD) of 10.4.5 (MaC.OsX.10.4.5.Universal.Install.DVD(INTEL:AMD:SSE 3:SSE2).iso (download torrent) - TPB) and burnt it to a DVD. I have the issue now, that if I try to boot from the DVD it calls the DVD "Windows" and if I try to boot from it to run the installer and select the 60gb drive (attached by USB), the screen goes black and has a blinking cursor in the top left corner. If I click the "Install Tiger" icon on the DVD when I am logged in to my laptop (internal disk), it says click restart to begin install, I do, and it just does a normal restart without any installation pop ups to speak of. I made sure the drive works by inserting the reinstall disk of 10.6 that came with my laptop, and the installer does not need a restart, and simply asked me to which disk I would like to install 10.6 to. Even if it is possible to get 10.6 to run on an atv, I have little interest in that since it would probably be very slow.
Did I download the wrong 10.4 install disk? I thought it just had to be 10.4 for intel cpu computers, and the universal installer should have this covered then.
I am not sure how to proceed now, since I don't see any other 10.4 intel installers on TPB, and I don't have original tiger install disks. In the forum I see many posts referring to specific 10.4 disk images for ATV, and I have looked for these on google and TPB, but the ones I have found are not seeded at all, and many of the links in the forum to other disk images are broken.
I would be very thankful if someone could advise me how to proceed further with the installation. The other thing I could use some directions to is the boot.efi file from an ATV OS backup, as I unfortunately lost the backup of my ATV OS.
Again, I would really appreciate some help as I am quite new to all this, but would love to learn more about these tweaks.
EDIT: This is the install I am trying to follow: http://www.appletvhacks.net/2007/04/...g-on-apple-tv/
I don't care for display or sound problems, or even USB usage, so long as remote terminal works I don't need any of those things.
