    Default nitotv mplayer as xbmc external player

    Hi,

    I've been looking for a solution for some time now with no success. Hopefully I'll have more luch here

    On a hacked Apple TV, how can I set xbmc to use nitotv/mplayer as an external player?

    What would be the path to nitotv mplayer on Apple tv to use?

    Thanks.
    Boris

    Why would you want to do that?

    I think it is possible though - you would be best asking this at forums.xbmc.org

    On my linux laptop I have xbmc set up to use mplayer as external player to play rtsp realvideo internet streams (various live tv channels).

    I'd like to do the same thing on apple tv.

    Either I find a way to point xbmc to nitotv's mplayer or I find a way to install a fresh mplayer on apple tv (with a risk of messing something with nitotv).
    I'd prefer the first option.

    Thanks.

    not really advisable, the mplayer in nitoTV is really specialized. it doesnt use the apple remote implementation (i started nitoTV before mplayer even had that) and had to cram it in via the frappliance itself. thus if you launch this outside of anywhere other than nitoTV the apple remote wont dont anything.

    there is a streams section IN nitoTV that you can use to keep track of channels. i must advise that its pretty flaky and doesnt work with too many live streams, never had much success compiling a version that had very widespread access. some rtsp work, alot dont.

    it is located inside the CommonMediaPlayer.framework.

    ~/Library/Frameworks/CommonMediaPlayer.framework/Resources/bin/mplayer

    Also, a while back I identified and reported a regression related to playback of MMS streams in XBMC on apple tv. It would simply crash, davilla fixed the problem - think it was a misconfiguration of the automated build scripts.

    See this thread for details. [AppleTV] 9.11 alpha1 crashes when opening video stream - XBMC Community Forum

    This issue is present in camelot (the current stable version of xbmc) but should be fixed in the dharma betas. I recall that I last used MMS streaming with dharma beta 1.

    If you are still running camelot then you might want to try dharma beta 2.

    Hi Nitosoft,

    You were right - mplayer didn't react to my remote. I managed to get it to play but was hidden behind xbmc and couldn't be shut down. I had to reboot (menu + down) to do that.

    Is there a way to solve this? If I install the fresh copy of mplayer for osx what would happen - would it mess up nitotv or would it work at all?

    For reference here is my playercorefactory.xml:
    Code:
    <playercorefactory>
     <players>
       <player name="MPlayer" type="ExternalPlayer" audio="true" video="true">      <filename>/mnt/Scratch/Users/frontrow/Library/Frameworks/CommonMediaPlayer.framework/Versions/A/Resources/bin/mplayer</filename>
         <args>-fs</args>
         <hidexbmc>false</hidexbmc>
         <hideconsole>false</hideconsole>
         <warpcursor>none</warpcursor>
       </player>
     </players>
     <rules action="prepend">
       <rule filetypes="smil" filename="*.smil" player="MPlayer"/>
       <rule protocols="rtsp" player="MPlayer"/>
     </rules>
    </playercorefactory>
    On the other issue:

    I've never managed to get Streams to work. All my rtsp are in a playlist.txt and accessed through Playlists interface. They work but the names assigned to streams (items in the playlist) are odd or missing (depending on the last part of url) and I can't add images.
    Is there a way to make playlist look prettier?

    Thanks for your help.

    You need to ensure that the mplayer you use is compiled and linked for 10.4 / ATVOS.

    @nitosoft - any hints on this? I tried this about 18 months ago - but I could never get my compiled binaries to run on the atv. From memory, they would run on regular Tiger 10.4 but not on the ATV. I didn't try particularly hard

    to be brutally honest, the build setup of the mplayer i use in nitoTV is EXTREMELY ghetto. I have 10.4 running on my old MacBook, which i pretty much solely use to compile stuff properly for tiger, i run macports on there and have a hacked up build from the dev branch that i heavily modified to get to compile static, and to regress certain "fixes" they made that brutally broke things, i actually dont even know where that laptop is atm, my room is in a horrible state of disrepair and i very infrequently try to do new builds because of the hassle of repatching all of the port files to get it to compile properly.
