as long as it mounts there is no reason it shouldnt play. it may not play WELL but it should still play. (and im mainly saying that because the dvdplayback framework from apple doesnt work with any caching system i know of, so i a connection struggles, or is slow over smb at all, then it may not play well if its a wireless mount.

SmartInstaller again
I have a problem with SmartInstaller.
My system is ATV OS 3.0.1 with NitoTV 0.8.2 and I've put into Documents folder both recovery.dmg and MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.9Intel.dmg
So running SmartInstaller I suppose to succeed installing AFP server.
Unfortunately AFP server is not installed.
What could be the problem?
This is the nitoinstall.log I get

Thanks for the update. I went ahead and tried a clean install again (FW Factory Restore, Update, Patchstick, NitoTV Install & SmartInstaller) and now it appears to be working again! I don't know what happened, it perplexes me that I did nothing different but it worked, but either way I can start enjoying ATV & NitoTV again!!!!
Thank you all for your help (especially you nitosoft!
), and I appreciate all your time you put into helping me fix my problem. You all are great and I appreciate the heck out of all of you.
Best Wishes,

EDIT #1 - Is there anyway to HIDE the OSBoot Mount shown under "Files" in NitoTV? It's more of a nitpick rather than a requirement, but just wanted to ask either way. Thanks!

EDIT_2: okay deleted out that first edit, smb installed via the smart installer still works without issue, it worked fine for me just now after doing a patched (but still fresh) install. not sure why you would have problems.

Nito and Network
I have patch my AppleTV with Patchstick 3.0.1. I have installed Nito TV and ATVFiles. It's seams that I can not get to mount my network drives. I have an error that said that AFS is not installed.
How can I make my Nito to mount my network shares ?
Thanks !

Is the "Factory Restore" mandatory for the upgrade from v2.4/nito 0.8 to v3.0/nito 0.8.2? (not even sure how to do that anyway...)
Thanks!

No the Factory Restore option was only done in my case because I was having an issue and wanted to start over fresh to try and work out my problems with a "virgin" machine again.
If you ever want to do a Factory Restore, it's under your ATV's Settings menu.

Thanks. Now I'm wondering if there's any downside to doing the factory restore? I supposed all of my photos and music will just sync back over from iTunes anyway. Is there anything you lose in the process by doing the factory restore?

Also, I want to make sure I have the whole process down correctly:
1. Factory Restore (in the atv menus)
2. Update to v3.0.1
3. Create the patchstick -- using atvusb creator, v2.0? Says it only creates a ATV 2.4 OS image -- reboot with that patchstick in the USB
4. Run Smartinstaller, once or twice?
5. Done
Mostly I want to make sure its o.k. to use the atvusb creator on the upgraded v3.0.1 system even though the util says it only creates the v2.4 patchstick...

stillerz,
Yep. All the atvusb-creator needs to really get right is installing ssh, which has pretty much been the same procedure for quite a while now.
