I'm fairly new to reading all the progress with awkwardtv, or enabling ssh, etc. etc. I'm mostly concerned whether a method to simply transfer ripped movies to the AppleTV's hard drive as opposed to syncing.

Is this only accomplished through PatchStick and then mounting the AppleTV on my desktop as a share?

I hate to sound impatient... over 30 views and not one person can say a simply yes or no? I guess this is a major factor in why I returned it this afternoon. The hacking community surrounding the AppleTV is quite small and almost teeters on dormant. There are too many posts here of people asking for a simple word of advice and they go unanswered.

If you want a "transfer only" option right now, you should go the route of hacking your atv to use saffire or nitoTV with the awkward TV plugin. then you can just transfer your files using fugu. Then get a extra hardrive if you want more space... atleast thats what i did and everything is peachy.

In other words, yes; the only way to get any kind of access to the drive other than ITunes Sync is to do the patchstick thing.
