The old atv is very old tech now. I have a 40gb and still use it every day - however half the time I run Linux and use the add-on crystal-hd decoder with xbmc. I don't use the 40gb storage at all.

Boxee runs very poorly on the atv (running atv-os) probably would run a lot better on Linux - I have yet to try.

I doubt Boxee will be ported (as-is) to the new atv (either via jailbroken app or via a legitimate app store). The real killer for many non-apple video apps on the new atv is the lack of hardware assisted decode of non h.264 video streams.

Boxee utilises flash a lot to playback video that may actually be h.264 format but is deliberately limited by the video provider to only stream via flash.

I think you will instead see video providers author their own atv apps streaming h.264 in a similar way to how apps on the iPhone/iPad ecosystem has developed.

Yes I think there will definitely be apps for new atv. Maybe not via apple till early next year - but I think it will happen.

There won't be a full Boxee app though. Most likely there will be something like the plex app for iOS which can stream from plex running on your local computer.
