Why not try out ATVFlash soft-mod and hook up your 1TB external hard drive via USB to the APPLETV and use the external as your primary hard drive as your source on the AppleTV?

Use free software instead. ATVFlash charges money for software that is free.

Be aware that the version of SoftwareMenu bundled with the ATVUSBCreator doesn't work with OS 3.0.1 or 3.0.2 - you need to manually update to 1.0b2.1 via SSH before you can use SoftwareMenu to install NitoTV.

    Hi,

I decided to go down the route of replacing the internal drive. I have a 1TB Samsung Spinpoint which was been prepared with all the necessary partitions and such, but I can't get my hands on a IDE-SATA adaptor that actually works. I've tried a couple off eBay (like this one) but neither did the job - I'm testing it using a 2.5" PATA drive enclosure and it doesn't mount, but if I put the drive in a SATA enclosure it's fine. Anyone have any suggestions of an adaptor they know works with bigger drives and that I can get in/import to the UK?

    Thanks.

Well here is what I did. I took my 160GB drive out, replaced it with a 320GB Western Digital PATA drive. Then installed gentoo. I then took a 7 port powered USB hub and hooked up 5x 250GB-1TB 2.5" SATA drives with SATA-to-USB 2.0 adapters and a wireless keyboard/mouse. I installed xbmc for video/local audio, and mpd to stream my music.

I have some issues when the MPD server is streaming ogg audio and I'm watching 720p tv shows. But other than that it works like a champ and is 90% hidden.

This little hateful device replaced a power hungry P4.

Is there any special procedure with drives larger than 500 GB? Following the "prepare a hard drive" guide from ankwardtv or using AtvCloner works ok with a 500 GB drive, but not with 1 TB.
