Default make a "slave" mac showup in a "master" mac's iTunes like an appleTV does

Ok, let me explain what I try to achieve. I want to sync a subset of my songs/movies in my master itunes database to another mac computer in a master/slave relationship, similar to how the Apple TV works.
The iTunes database on the slave computer should be updated with the same rating, playcount, etc just like the AppleTV does.

I have 3 mac's. My "master" itunes db (with all music and video now over 300GB large) is on "mac number 1", I now want the two other mac's (mac 2 and mac 3) to show up in my master itunes in the same way as an appleTV does. in other words, I can now set which subset of music, playlist, movies I want to sync from my master to mac 2, and mac3 which are both portable computers.

Which files do I have to copy from my AppleTV to my mac 2 and mac 3 so that they show up in my iTunes on my master mac as if they were AppleTV's?

Should be standard functionality provided by Apple, but it isn't, so any ideas on how to achieve this?

go to iTunes preferences on all your macs, click "Sharing".
then select by ticking "Look for shared libraries" and "Share my Library on my local network" and your all done....

    Default I want more

That is not the same thing as the appleTV works.

We know about sharing the itunes library. But I cannot define my own playlists, I cannot change rating, playcounts are not taken into consideration....

The AppleTV alows all of this, it even remembers the point were a movie was left when you resume and syncs that.

If the master is not on the same network the other macbooks won't see a thing. I think it is much more efficient to have the files local on your macbook.

    Default Looking for this too!

I'm looking for the exact same thing. I'm guessing there must be a daemon that runs on the apple TV that syncs the library and other files from the "master" itunes machine. I'd like to run this on my mac mini that I've got setup as my "media center" system hooked to my HDTV.

from what i've seen in the log files, it's likely a part of code in frontrow.app (or backrow if you want to call it that). i'll look it over again see if i didn't miss something obvious... but if it is frontrow.app, it's rather difficult to hack together something that works exactly the same way (authenticating with itunes, your itunes music store user acct etc.)

conceivably you could run instances of backrow on each 'slave' machine, but then you won't be using iTunes to play your files.

This is exactly what I'm trying to do as well. I have an old B&W G3 that I have running iTunes, TVShows, and Transmission. This is my "master" iTunes box and feeds my AppleTV. I'd like my MacBook to basically appear as another AppleTV in iTunes on my G3 and set it to sync movies, tv shows, and podcasts based on played status so I can bring my unwatched content with me. Right now I have three Smart Playlists defined on the G3 (unwatched tv shows, unwatched movies, unwatched podcasts) and have them synced to my MacBook using Martian Slingshot. This is working but it does not sync back play count or new/not new status as the AppleTV does.

One think I'd like on top of the sync functionality of the AppleTV would be the ability to add something to the library on my MacBook and have it sync back to my G3, but this could always be done through SuperSync as well.

I'd probably be willing to throw a small donation someone's way if they were able to come up with a method of tricking iTunes into thinking my MacBook was an AppleTV (while still using the standard FrontRow install).
