Sorry, no idea about your sound issue. I'd guess the driver needs to treat the hdmi audio as a different output. Ooh - idea - did u try diff. outputs in the audio thing in system preferences?
That's a good idea, I'll check that out.

Well I doubt it'll be that simple, unf. Once someone figures out the AppleHDA patching for the atv, I imagine hdmi audio out will be a switchable option in the audio output preference pane.

I've created a guide for installing iDeneb 10.5.5 on the AppleTV: http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/f98/70835.htm.

Maybe this helps some of you to get it running.

@munky: I'll try to reach the guy on irc, thanx
Edit: I'll talked to him and he said, that atm it's not possible as there is no driver that supports that. Though, imho, the AppleTV OS GeForce kext does support this or else sound would not work?! But obviously he's a very busy man, and didn't reply.

I guess, I'm out of luck.

The problem were running into again and again is that nobody is really interested in appletv hacking anymore, which is a shame imho.

My plan is to run Leo without Finder, Dock or Spotlight, and run Front Row + EyeTV Plugin. To work on my setup tho, I'd need composite working, hence my interest in that. Think I'll follow your ideneb guide (used retail - and got it booting - before, but this way is probably more straightforward) and try again.

Imho, Apple could have done much more to promote the AppleTV and make it the "number one choice" for people, who want to play videos (music, games, ...) on their TV screens.
Nowadays there are boxes that are much more powerful and open and slowly people turn away from the AppleTV or don't even consider to buy (except people like us ;-)).
I do understand that. If I had no AppleTV I wouldn't buy it anymore, because it's kinda abandoned from Apple. So why should anyone try to "hack" a device that has no future?

    Hey all,
Does anybody know, how to boot from usb? I want to make a bootable usb stick (2Gb) to boot from it, when I fuck up my appletv, then I don't have to take out the hard drive to re-image it. My plan is, create a backup partiton on appletv, where you will put the backup image, and create a usb stick with for example a really small osx (only with disk utility). So you can boot from the usb stick, and with the disk utility you can restore it. But unfortunately I couldn't get to boot from usb, even with a full kalyway appleTV system (which is worked before in my appleTV).
    Can somebody help in this?

Search the forum, there are two threads about Tiger and Leopard, that will tell you what you want to know.

The driver loads, but still no sound over hdmi. On the issues section on google code, a user complains about hdmi sound not working. So I'm still out of luck.

Next thing I'll try to get bluetooth working.

Default "VoodooHDA" Has anyone tried it?

Hello. I've noticed that wit the sound patch the sound works, but, it's incompatible wit quick time. It crashes every time I try to play a movie! The workaround is using VLC.
Quicktime work's well if I don't patch the "AppleHDA.kext",but, no sound.

I've found that ppl have manage to have sound working on the HP/Compaq Mini Netbook wit VoodooHDA.kext. Maybe it could work wit the ATV and have sound from HDMI output. As anyone already tried this kext?

I need the "TVComposite.kext" for Leopard too for my old tv in the kitchen...

    Regards,

    Xanix
