    You have to set the x11 display manually. This should do the trick (in the ssh terminal):
    DISPLAY=:0

    Then start X11, normally with "open /Applications/X11.app".

    Now it should work.

    OFFTOPIC: In certain situations java does a really good job. But many people think, that java - just because it has some gui toolkits - is an allround tool for programming everything. Imho, this is not true, because it simply lacks perfomance, looks awful (at least for mac users) and lacks proper integration into the underlying os (file open dialogs, colors, menus, themes ...).
    But nonetheless, for such a programm like Jdownloader it was a good choice. Otherwise we (mac users) wouldn't have such a great program. Objective-c? Not a choice! Other languages and gui-toolkits? Look out to so many other (linux) ports: they have an X11-interface. Much uglier than java swt/awt/swing ...

    BACK TO TOPIC:
    If DISPLAY=:0 try to use 0:0. You could also try to start X11 with "/Applications/X11.app/Contents/MacOS/X11". This should give you some terminal output. Maybe there you get the correct display variable.

    objective-c would've been a choice if it originated on the mac, (by a real mac dev anyways) i dont doubt someone who knows how it works could put together a mac objective-c based version in a few hours, i basically avoid anything written in java like the plague because its hideous interface and mostly shoddy performance (with any java based app i've personally dealt with anyways) most *nix based ports i've used have been cli based in addition to having no reliance on X11 so i've been pretty lucky from that regard.

    Doesn't work. It can't be that complicated.

    But I've tried everything. It seems to me that X11 is closed after a few seconds...

    After two or three seconds i'm looking at my process list and there's nothing like X11.

    so even if you do get jdownloader working on your appletv wont you need to quit the finder and use vnc or a mouse on your screen to even get it to work properly? is it worth all this extra effort for something that you can just do on your computer? i dont see the benefit to running jdownloader on the appletv
