    Default Internet sharing on 3.0.1?

I just got an AppleTV with 3.0.1 on it, and I want to use it as a wireless access point. Is there any way?

The latest instructions I can find on how to do that are from 2.4, where there was a networksetup utility that is not present in 3.0.1. I'd rather not downgrade, but I suppose that's an option.

I've already patched it and have ssh access etc.

    Thank you!!
    -Rob

Have you run the smart installer from NitoTV? This copies back in a lot of missing files that were removed from later versions of the Apple TV OS. I am pretty sure that this tool was actually removed in OS 1.1.

    Default Installed nitotv smart installer

Hi olethros, thanks for the advice!

I installed nitotv and ran the smartinstaller. It installed a bunch of stuff -- I noticed a couple items failed so I ran it again. I attached the log below.

I searched the whole drive for 'network' and I found the following packages.

    /System/Library/CoreServices/Network Setup Assistant.app
    /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/CFNetwork.framework
    /System/Library/Frameworks/SystemConfiguration.framework/Versions/A/Resources/NetworkConfiguration.plist
    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework/Versions/A/Resources/AirPortNetworkPrefs.bundle/Contents/Resources/AirPortCfgTool
    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/NetworkConfig.framework/Versions/A/NetworkConfig
    /System/Library/SystemConfiguration/Kicker.bundle/Contents/Resources/enable-network

I tried running all the interesting-looking ones, but I didn't make any progress. I didn't find the networksetup tool that is written about elsewhere.

    Any other ideas or tips?

    Thanks!!!
    -Rob

With the exception of the items below, the log looks pretty normal.

I suspect you don't have the original OS 1.0 Recovery Image in your documents folder while you ran the smart installer.

The file you are after is located at:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Support/networksetup

    Default almost there

Ah thanks, I got networksetup working now (and everything installed from SmartInstaller).

It looks like the next steps are :

Kill configd to prevent it from turning off airport power:
    Code:
    kill -9 `ps awx | grep [c]onfig | awk {'print $1'}`
    Turn on airport:
    Code:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Support/networksetup -setairportpower on
    Set up the router functionality:
    - "Copy System Preferences and then enable Internet Sharing"
    - Use the 'route' command to set up the internet sharing.

I'm stuck on every part here.
    1. configd is restarted immediately when I kill it.
    2. Turning airport power on results in: "You cannot set AirPort power because all AirPort network services are disabled.". I haven't found a way to turn on airport.
    3. I don't know how to accomplish either of the two ways to setup the router functionality.

Any more tips? The biggest problem is just not being able to turn airport on at all...

    Thank you!!!!
    -Rob
