Default Installed ssh now how to install Perian

I've installed ssh along with nitoTV and XBMC using a flash drive and the open sourced loader. From nitoTV I then installed perian which was my aim in the first place. I assume if I remove nitoTV that it will also remove the items it installed?

Basically, I'd like to have my ATV with ssh access and only perian installed. Is there a relatively simple way to do that assuming you have ssh access? For example if I extract the perian codecs and transfer them to the frontrow user's desktop via Fugu or whatever, could I then sudo copy them into where they should be and have the permissions be right? Or, could I transfer tehm directly into the plugins folder of quicktime and then somehow repair permissions via a cli?

I assume I'd have to first make the root partition writable and then do the transfer...?

The nitoTV way is just so easy but then I have a lot of stuff on the ATV that I don't use....

    thank's...ls

If you remove nitoTV, then the perian will stay on your machine.

Perian is distributed with all it's components in zip files. If you extract these zip files in the proper directories on the ATV, it'll set everything correct (see the ditto command for this). Perian isn't terribly strict on file permissions.

you will still need a 3rd party plugin to take advantage of perian being installed, whether it be nitoTV, ATVFiles or Sapphire one of them has got to stay or perian is just wasting space on your appletv (not a lot of space, and wasting space isnt really the issue, its perian being used at all) the movies and tv show section wont view files that aren't synced through itunes or accepted into itunes to be syncable or playable so you still need a third party solution.

Actually I decided to keep nitoTV as it's really nice, but I decided to install Perian 1.1.3 and did it manually.

I use a very nice program called videodrive which puts xvid files into a .mov container while tricking iTunes and AppleTV into thinking they are H.264. I can then sync/stream and play them from the regular ATV interface. I guess it's a similar idea to the fool ATV applescript that has been around for a while.
