Default [iClarified] - How to Make a Take 2 AppleTV Patchstick

    Hey,

I've created a really long but unfortunately necessary tutorial on how to create a take 2 patchstick using a tiger cd. This can be done from leopard or tiger...

This patchstick will automatically install SSH onto your AppleTV so you don't have to open up the case!

    Hope it helps...

    Good luck!

The Patchstick will replace the Kerberos.framework file of the AppleTV. This is causing some problems. In particular, mount_afp fails with "Illegal instruction".

You should copy the "new" Kerberos.framework to /System/Library/Frameworks/OSXFrames/ and edit the sshd-keygen-wrapper.

Anyway Thanks for the nice "howto"

    Cheers

Default Creating a Patchstick under Leopard w/o Tiger Disc

    slevytam:
thanks for the tutorial and the web site -really pleased to know such a wealth of "straightforward" guides are out there.

recently, i've been trying to create a patchstick for my ATV v 2.1 (using iclarified's guide) and it turns out i need a tiger disc (...) i bought this iMac two days ago (running Leopard 10.5.4) and so, included were the relevant (10.5.4) OS roms. what's really annoying is one of the reasons i chose a mac was so i could get the atv working ! ! (<winxp). is there any way i can create this patchstick (i've looked all over the net)? ? surprise me! . . . please

i dont recommend following the iClarified guide, especially if you care about a proper USB patch or being able to mount anything through afp.

thanks nitosoft, had a look at the awkwardtv wiki, but it didn't solve anything as my mac came out of the box with Leopard v.10.5.4.
    i don't have a tiger disc, only leopard (10.5.4).

Creation of a Patchstick is possible on Leopard if you have access to your old Mac OS X Intel install disc, i.e. the one that got bundled with you pre-Leopard Intel Mac

    To clarify (no pun intended)...

...Do I need the Tiger OS disc to make the patchstick under 10.5.5 (just updated from 10.5.4)? -because I don't have it.

Will the Leopard OS 10.5.4 disc be sufficient in order to follow the awkwardtv wiki? or iclarified for that matter? I've had this ATV for a year now -nothing seems to go according to plan (while using windows) and its coming to a point where I'm seriously considering ATV4Windows -is it worth it?

a hacked atv worth it? yes. using something made by CiscoTM? (at4windows, atvpatch) definitely NOT advisable.
