Default I think I bricked my Apple TV

A while ago I successfully installed aTV Flash and had an external drive hooked up and everything worked great. Last night my external drive died and I turned off my ATV and when I turned it back on to try to tell it to use the internal drive, it goes past the demo mode and then the screen turns black but no menu's come on. When I click the remote buttons, I can hear the speakers make their clicking sound. I then tried to re-flash the aTV software off of a USB thumb drive, I saw aTV logo stating it completed the process and to remove drive and restart the ATV, so I did and it still gets to the same point and will not go further. What can I do??? How can I revert back to the original AppleTV software if I cannot see the menu?

Of course I went to Apple.com's forums and all I get is responses that I should not of hacked the ATV and they will not support this problem.

    1. Hold down the Menu and Menu down/scroll (-) buttons on the white apple remote until the LED on the Apple TV flashes yellow.
    2. The appleTV will reboot.
    3. Select the language you wish to use.
    4. Then choose restore to factory defaults

If this doesn't work, then your recovery partition is somehow damaged/missing or you have a hardware problem with the Apple TV.
