Hey guys i just changed the restore img on the apple tv to 3.01 and apparently i got a bad download because once i clicked factory restore it now stops at the language selection screen and none of my apple remotes work with it so i cannot select english so i am stuck. Someone please help me. Can i fix this without pulling the hard drive out of the atv? Any way that i can get my ATV working again no matter what version would be a big help. i really screwed it up this time

Do you have a copy of the original restore partition?
You should be able to fix this by booting from a USB stick running linux. This stick also needs to contain a copy of the original restore partition.

I do have the restore.img that i got from the apple tv before i SSHed the new one. I downloaded a older OS version already and placed it in the restore.img. What do i do with it? How do i get it onto the ATV. and what would the USB linux thing do? I do not have a linux machine to make the patchstick all i have is a mac. But in the restore.img i have

The only way you can fix this without pulling the hard drive is to boot the apple tv from a usb stick running linux and then overwrite your recovery partition with the one you backed up.

Read that post carefully, I have personally used this guide (I only did the part that refers to backing up my recovery partition) and recall that it was not too hard.

What Apple TV OS is on the backed up restore.img? (just curious)

Ok i was able to SSH into the apple tv by connecting it to my mac directly, I uploaded the new os into the restore part of the apple tv but it still brings me back to the same problem i had before. I get to the choose your language screen and nothing works, i cannot even move the cursor up or down much less select anything. When i tried the Menu - trick to restart it but i cannot get it to come up with the option to "Factory Restore" what can i do?
