Unhappy Help - ATV is killing my bandwidth

    Hi,
    Patched ATV.
    I'm on a 12M/1M down/up link.
When I shutdown ATV I'm getting bandwidth reading which is pretty close to the above, with sub 50ms ping (based on speedtest.net).
When I turn it on, I get a few hundreds ms ping, and bandwidth which goes down and down until I almost feel like back to the happy days of dial-up.
Doing netstat I get a ZILLION entries which I really can't explain.
Could the box have been hacked?
Is it Boxee (even when turned off) talking to all the apps it has?
    Something else?

    Thanks.

Added: netstat output can be viewed here: https://docs.google.com/document/edi...FydXmLBA&hl=en

Added: Come to think of it, most likely the amount of the connections is due to Transmission Bittorrent running. I paused all my torrents and it seems like it's better.
I'm leaving the question here just in case someone has more comments / ideas how to secure the box further.

Did you install some kind of torrent app? Or anything else using p2p technology?

Yes I am (see the last line on my post).
But after a while, even if all the torrents are paused, there's a bunch of connections and bandwidth is low.
Also seems like some 5-8 instances are running - is that normal?

It's not normal to have so many instances running.

Possibly you are starting a new instance of transmission instead of re-connecting to the existing instance that is still running in the background.

Are you using the screen terminal utility to reconnect to existing transmission instances?

    Code:
    screen -r
    for instance?

I'm using the automatic start as described in Transmission on AppleTV - AwkwardTV
I connect to Transmission via their web GUI, not on the terminal.

Ahh, yeah - my experience is more with rtorrent. However your current config is clearly spawning multiple instances of transmission. I'm not sure why.

Connections inbound after quitiing torrent is normal btw. your ip is still known and clients try to connect it.

Question And what is the bandwidth usage effect?

Makes sense, but also raises a question if these connections still eat my bandwidth, and if so why and what could be done to prevent that.
