HDMI on hacked ATV
Hi guys,
I've been searching for an answer to this in past posts but couldn't find it.
What I'm wondering is this: hacking an ATV using - for instance - the patchstick, what can the HDMI port then be used for resolution-wise?
Would it be possible to play divx/xvid (obviously, the right codecs would have to be installed and all that) in 720p or higher via the HDMI port to a 16:9 full HD tv, or would it only work at a lowly 480p?
I'm asking because I've heard HDMI only works at higher than 480 with DRM'ed signals (or something) and downscales everything else.
TIA
boffel

I doesn't play 720p mkv very well, but I never tried divx. The 720p stuff from itunes playes well.
You can use every resolution via HDMI. Using HD videos is not a matter of output resolution but of processor power. And the atv definitely lacks cpu power, so decoding HD videos could be a problem if the video uses the "wrong" codec.
