    Worked a treat!
Now i can use one of my obsolete ATV's to 'serve' my active one in the living room, so I don't need to use my Macbook for syncing. Next step I can use an SSD in my macbook (once i take off my itunes files)
Still curious which 500gb drive one of the posters in this thread claimed to have used in his ATV.....didn't know there were 500GB ide drives around.

Hey guys, So I downloaded the 10.5.8 vanilla yesterday and it works great other then that it is a little slow. I have it installed on the apple tv's Hard drive. Is there a way to strip down the install to be like the modified one? Also is there a way I can make it boot up without all the code and just have the normal Apple logo? Thanks everyone

Okay, so I seem to be having some problems.

    Bought a 40gb atv1 on ebay for $65
Borrowed the 10.5.8 pre-built image by JonMS.
    Removed hdd
    Formated it
    Cloned the OS over
It boots just fine - I removed almost every program, because I only need this to run sabnzbd and I got that installed, but then after awhile (5 mins), it just seems to crash, turn off, turn back on (I can hear the HDD spinning up), and then do nothing. From the ram thing in the menu bar, it looks to be using about 190mbs of ram while sabnzbd is running and the CPU is very low at 15 - 30%.

    Help?

Are you sure that the atv itself doesn't have a hardware problem?

Tried restoring the actual ATVOS and seeing if it runs without crashing?

Yeah, I left it on for like a week before I ordered the HDD to USB adaptor. Never played any movies over wifi from it, but it seemed to load boxee up.

It does seem to get fairly hot, though. When I opened it up, the rubber on the bottom ripped, so I removed it, and the annoying glue tape, so all of the little holes on the bottom are completely open.

I haven't heard the fan in it, but does it ever spin up enough to actually make noise?

Default Running with questions - audio and component video

    Hi all,
Thanks for the great help. I got my ATV up and running with 10.5.5 in no time.
OFC it's still a bit slow, so running Hulu on Chrome is not a joy :-).
Can anyone help in explaining how to speed up the 10.5.5 install?
    Any help is very welcome.

    Thx all! Great job!!!

    Hello JonMS,
Does this 10.5.8 have the audio issue resolved?
