Dug up my AppleTV the other day only to see that my HDD and HDD cable are missing. I've ordered one of those sata converters no idea when it will arrive but once it does this shall resume.

Sounds good mate! Hope you're feeling better.

Those cheap little PATA --> SATA adapters work wonders in the old Apple TV. I got one on Amazon several weeks ago for around $4 shipped; it took two weeks to get here, but now my Apple TV is working happily with an SSD, mitigating the minuscule amount of RAM in the poor thing

Just bought myself a SSD for my Apple TV, I've been running the 10.5.8 image for a long time, aside from the lag it works surprisingly well. I myself stripped down the install to the essentials (even deleted a whole lot of stock osx applications). I'm surprised how well it runs most things, even WoW (wrath on private server) seems to work pretty well with settings on low. Once the SSD gets here I can't wait to see how much better it all runs.

An SSD really makes a world of difference. I have my Apple TV set up as a relatively full-featured server (iTunes media, SSH, and AFP on the LAN; SSH, SFTP, HTTP, VNC on the WAN) and it boots with around 400mb swap. With the old HDD, it took several minutes to boot, and doing anything with it was absolutely painful. With the SSD it's around as fast as an aging Mac, somewhere between my iMac G5 and Core Duo MacBook in terms of responsiveness, both of which have SSDs in them as well.

Hi, I have an old ATV1 and am wanting to use it as an iTunes Server for my new ATV3, rather than going out and buying a Mac Mini. Has anyone got a link to the any of the images mentioned previously? None of the links on the front page seem to work.

    Cheers!
