Excellent Work! I must say that the installation is very snappy. Hopefully, the progress made so far will not stop, and we can see a return of audio support on the device.

Incidentally, I used monolingual to remove all the non-necessary language files. Is anyone using this as a HTPC? That's my ultimate desire, but I'm not sure it's going to have enough power.

So odd I can hear the audio very faint on analog when I jack up the volume. The ALC885C audio chip, which in inside the Apple TV, is supported by OS X 10.5.8, but there seems to be some inconsistency with the current Kernel.

Hopefully someone (Jon?) with more knowledge of the process will be able to figure this out. The machine is pretty usable with the exception of audio. The USB sound card is an option, but I'd like to use the device solely with BT and without a hub.

It works well, however I notice sometimes programs do not close propertly and the small memory available gets in trouble, for example: Frontrow works fine with the remote, but when I quit Frontrow and check for memory usage on a terminal with "top -o rsize" it still there using about ~40Mb, so I have to kill it manually. Any suggestions for better memory managment?
    cheers.
Everything I've read says OS X is wonderful at optimizing RAM and that no third party app is needed to help it further. Do I believe this? No. The only thing I can recommend is to use the Cleaning options in Onyx which I believe I included with my latest image.

Also I'm actively looking into audio but no promises, its a real pain in the ass.

Wondering if anyone has been able to successfully install Ash's 10.5.5 image on the Apple TV internal drive? Boots fine from external USB but when I restore to internal (on Media partition) and try to bless the boot.efi file, I get the following error.

"Could not set boot device property: 0xe00002c7"

    Anyone encountered/ solved this issue?

    Thanks in advance.

Discuss this in private mesages or preferably offsite. This site doesn't encourage unauthorised redistribution of apple binaries (in this case a whole OS X install).

    What's New:
    -Speed Increase everywhere
    -Stock Boot (Apple Logo)
-Removed PPC code from all applications
    -Free space increased
-All updates installed as of 10/13/2010 or 13/10/2010 (depending on where you're from ;])
-Power light now white instead of blinking amber (boot with no devices plugged in USB for it to work, why it doesn't when there is something plugged in I have no idea)
    -Lots more that I forget!
Hi, first thx for the image file. I've never done this before. So, can someone briefly show me how to restore the image to AppleTV's internal HDD. I thought I could use external HD to boot up the atv without changing things in atv. Thx guys and happy thxgiving!

I just want to say thanks for all the hard work done by ash and JonMS! You guys effing rock! I easily installed OSX on an external disk, however it ran WAY to slow to make it usable. I have just installed Jon's V2 internally, and I'm very happy with the speed. It plays videos well, and front row rocks (with Perian of course). My favorite feature, compared to an original apple tv is being able to fire up Safari, surf over to myp2p.eu, and stream LIVE all of my sport games that I have been missing. Thanks!
